  9.           Dir - Pretty display of files and directories.
  10.  
  11.      SYNOPSIS
  12.           DIR Dir OPT/k [ADFHIS] SIZE/s INTER/s HILITE/s FILES/s
  13.         DIRS/s ALL/s
  14.  
  15.      DESCRIPTION
  16.           Dir by itself displays any files and directories in the
  17.           current directory.  By default, Dir will display any
  18.           subdirectories, one per line, and then any files, in two
  19.       columns, in sorted order.  Directories are followed by the
  20.       string "(dir)".

  22.           You can specify an alternate directory to display as an
  23.           argument, and you may also use wildcards.  If you use
  24.           wildcards, Dir will display all files that match that
  25.           wildcard pattern.  If it encounters a directory during the
  26.           course of its search for matching patterns, it will display
  27.           the name of the directory, and also its contents.

  29.      OPTIONS
  30.           The ARP Dir command supports all the options of the original
  31.           BCPL Dir, and several more as well.  Using the ARP Dir
  32.           command, you can use the keyword OPT, and then the single
  33.           letter which represents the option you desire, or you may
  34.           use the clearer keyword equivalents supplied.  The options
  35.           and their keyword equivalents are described below:

  37.           SIZE or OPT S
  38.                This ARP option displays the names of the files and
  39.                their sizes in two columns on the display device.  If a
  40.                directory is encountered, it is identified as usual
  41.                with a "(dir)".
  42.  
  43.           HILITE or OPT H
  44.                This ARP option enables pretty printing of Dirs output.
  45.                All directory names will be displayed in inverse video.
  46.  
  47.           FILES or OPT F
  48.                This displays only files, any directories found will
  49.                will not be displayed.
  50.  
  51.           DIRS or OPT D
  52.                This displays only directories, any files found will
  53.                not be displayed.

  55.           ALL  This option displays the complete contents of that
  56.                branch of the directory tree.  As Dir descends a level,
  57.                the indentation is increased to make the organization

  75.                the other options or keywords along with ALL to
  76.                generate the display you need.

  78.           INTER or OPT I
  79.                This allows interactive file browsing through a
  80.                directory or a disk.  Using this option, you will be
  81.                presented with a file or directory name, followed by a
  82.                question mark. You can find out what additional options
  83.                are available to you at this point by typing another
  84.                question mark '?', and pressing return.  These are:
  85.  
  86.                 B=BACK
  87.                      Moves backwards, up the directory tree.  If you
  88.                      are at the top, this will exit the listing.
  89.  
  90.                 DEL=DELETE
  91.                      This will delete the current file.
  92.  
  93.                 E=ENTER
  94.                      This will enter a directory.  Note that you must
  95.                      be at a directory entry in order for this option
  96.                      to be valid.

  98.                 Q=QUIT
  99.                      This will quit Dir.
  100.  
  101.                 T=TYPE
  102.                      This will type the current file.
  103.  
  104.                 C=COM
  105.                      This takes any command as an argument, and sends
  106.                      it to a subshell.  Any shell command can be used
  107.                      here, including the IO Redirection operators (<,
  108.                      >, and >>).  If you do not specify a command as
  109.                      an argument, you will be prompted for one.

  111.      EXAMPLE
  112.           To get a listing of all directories on drive DF1:
  113.  
  114.              DIR DF1: ALL DIRS
  115.              or
  116.              DIR DF1: OPT AD
  117.  
  118.           To get a listing of all directories and files and the sizes
  119.           of the files on drive df0:, as well as displaying the
  120.           directories in inverse video do:

  122.              DIR DF1: ALL SIZES HILITE

  124.              DF1: OPT ASH
